About

Sydney, the face and hands behind Arachne’s Quilting, is a lifelong fiber artist with decades of sewing experience. They pull from their PhD in art history for artistic inspiration including themes, composition, and color theory, and have hands-on experience with a range of fine art quilts through work in museum settings. Sydney is prepared to provide support for thread color and quilting design selection for all styles of quilts. Sydney loves to work with a range of quilt styles from traditional to contemporary, and looks forward to working with you on your next project!

Arachne’s Quilting is named for the mythical character Arachne (uh-rack-knee). Arachne was a mortal fabric weaver so skilled she outperformed a goddess by weaving a tapestry with expert skill. She was then punished for both her lack of humility and for criticizing the gods with her tapestry and suffered a shameful death. After her death, she was sympathetically turned into a spider so she could spin webs for the rest of time. The name was selected to reflect the level of perfection that Sydney strives to achieve with every quilt.

🏳️‍🌈 Arachne’s Quilting is proudly queer and trans owned! Sydney also speaks some ASL and is happy to work with the Deaf community.
